Direct-Mount Pickups with Precision No Pickguard Required
Direct-mounting pickups into the body gives you a tighter, more resonant connection between the pickup and the wood. But the standard method wood screws straight into the body strips out fast, especially when you’re fine-tuning pickup height. This system solves that with threaded inserts and a custom screw design.
What’s Included
- Custom-designed screws with a smooth shaft near the head (allows the pickup to “float” for height adjustment)
- Threaded steel inserts
- Free precision mounting tool
Custom Screw Design
Unlike standard machine screws, these have a smooth (unthreaded) section near the head. This lets the pickup ear slide freely on the shaft while the threaded portion locks into the insert giving you smooth, precise height adjustment with a spring (just like a pickguard-mounted setup, but direct into the body).
Imperial or Metric?
- Imperial thread For US-made pickups (most Gibson, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, Bare Knuckle, etc.)
- Metric thread For import pickups and some Asian-made guitars
Not sure? Check your existing pickup mounting screws or the pickup manufacturer’s specs.
Why Direct Mount?
Many players prefer the tone of pickups mounted directly into the body. With no pickguard acting as a buffer, the pickup hears the wood more directly resulting in tighter bass response and more clarity. Some of the most expensive custom guitars use direct mounting as standard. Now you can retrofit it on any guitar.
